Haven't slated this in a while...

The Twishite saga is clogging up my folders with it's inane teen angst. I tried to stem the flow but the effluent direness is overflowing.

Stephen King is one of my favourite authors and for this quote, he scores extra cool points:

(Spoiler alert: I shall be commenting on the other teen angst book/film of the last few years in the next few days - The Hunger Games and it's blatant ripoff storyline of The Long Walk.)

Easter

Happy Easter to all, my favourite Easter was 2005 where I went to the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender and hung out with some fabulous friends. But I've always liked the holiday.

I spent the morning gathering egg wrappers to show my daughters how it's done, not to live vicariously through them, no really...

Reaching for the Rainbow

Once upon a time, about a decade ago, I was approached by an independant card and print making company to design a few pictures that they could mass produce via their printers in China. I drew some  standard roses, antique desks, candles and other cutesie things for Valentine's day; some figures embraced by hands for memorial/religious cards and as a special order for a local seafood, family restaurant designed the paper their menus would be printed on. I drew an old scroll for a "pirate treasure map". In fact I drew this:

Yes, that poster is my design, what went from a kids pirate map has over the decade morphed into the background for a gay marriage protest sign! Like it? I think it's brilliant personally. The card company sold the design somewhere along the way and according to a friend of mine, it is available in Walmart in the US for posters (maybe I should have asked for more, rather than selling the design outright, oh well).

Today I was getting a few clues that I should be posting (ha!) about gay rights, my sister just finished an assignment about teen suicide prevalence in gay teens and wrote about it on Facebook was probably my most obvious inspiration cue. Let me just be blatantly clear, I am 100% behind gay marriage, I have a (second) cousin who is gay and my Grandmother was very openminded about how many gay, lesbian family members there had been in the past, she really was ahead of her time in her attitudes in a very refreshing way.

(A bit of Easter humour.)

Personally, I am living in hope for the next generation,  if internet iconry can memefy these guys:

And hero worship these:

(Alright, he's never confirmed but still...)

(Not gay but a vocal advocate of gay rights, also I'm in lust with Seth MacFarlane's voice).

Good food, Good Friday

Today is Good Friday, let us start a new tradition! Foodie Friday? What do you think, I've a few food related submissions I can share, may as well make a day of it.

Sometimes kids just take a recipe quite literally:

History

I've begun the history section of my module, I've had a quick look through my course book and much to my chagrin, there is no Italian Renaissance men leaping about buildings:
Or Roman villa construction courses รก la Age of Empires:

Not even a single paragraph about medieval plague surgeons:

(Credit to Dolls and Dead Things for the image.)

Nope, instead I get to read about Chartism and the only thing that looks of somewhat interest is the pages on the Suffragette Movement. Oh well I shall just have to make do and smile:

You Scream, Ice-cream

My lovely, eldest son surprised me with a teddy bear and some flowers the other day. It was super sweet, I've not had a teddy bought for me in years and completely unexpected, so it was a major thrill.

I think too much exposure to skewered, off beat, counter culture has changed my perceptions a bit though.

You know, come to think of it, I am forming the opinion that it's subliminal messaging coming through the tannoy of ice cream vans. Once upon a time, all ice cream vans played "Greensleeves"or "The Sailor's Hornpipe" but that was ruined with the Mike Oldfield tacking it onto the end of "Tubular Bells".

You know what? I don't mind, I love my new teddy!

Milestone Birthdays

One of my besties is turning forty today. To celebrate I thought I would share forty images of forty, but (un)surprisingly there are not that many images celebrating.

And just because my friend is forty now, doesn't mean he is any less special to me.

Happy Birthday Brett!
